Walking Trip through Nature from Bory to Slovany

We primarily recommend this trip to families with kids, as nearly the entire path leads you through beautiful nature scenes, where children can also play on one of the three playgrounds along the route. You could even manage the relatively easy walk from Bory to Slovany with a pram. Be sure to take a snack from home with you, otherwise, your reward in the form of refreshments will be waiting for you at the end of the walk.

Start in Bory Park (Borský park)

The route starts at tram stop no. 4 – Bory park, from where you will cross the street to the park. In about 200 metres, the yellow walking path begins, which you will follow for the entirety of your walk. Bory park is the largest park in the city, it offers many options for relaxation and restful activities. In summer, you’ll happen upon many groups here whom you can join for a game of football or any other team sports. When the weather’s nice, the oval-shaped meadow in the centre of the park offers a good place to sit in the grass.

Visit Meditation Garden

After about 500 m, you’ll pass a children’s playground and go through a tunnel to the Czech Valley Reservoir (České údolí). From there, follow the Radbuza River to Tyršův Bridge (Tyršův most). Cross the bridge and turn left. Here you’ll pass by the Meditation Garden, which you should definitely plan into your trip at a time when it’s open. This former fruit garden was transformed by Luboš Hruška, the once political prisoner, into a gorgeous park and later The Memorial to the Victims of Evil.

Continue along the Úhlava river

Keep going along the yellow walking path. Along this route, a number of beautiful views of the city will show themselves to you. Use the Vokoun Footbridge (Vokounová lávka) to cross over the Úhlava River, then turn left at the crossroads. About 500 metres later, we recommend taking a left to Homolka Park. Here you’ll find a wonderful space for athletes as well as families with kids. Make your way through the park via the nature trail for children, which is also pram-accessible. In addition, you can make use of the many workout machines placed in different locations around the entire park.

Get a snack in Kafe Smetanka

Later, near the public transportation stops next to the park, you can take a break and enjoy something sweet at Kafe Smetanka. From the Slovany stop, you can return to Bory by taking bus no. 30 or to the city centre on tram no. 1.
