7 TOP Exciting News from Pilsen in 2021

Despite the coronavirus epidemic, plenty of exciting news worthy of your attention took place in Pilsen throughout the year. As soon as circumstances allow, we’re excited for the opening of a new microbrewery, tons of new food establishments, expositions in the ZOO, as well as a new tourist information centre.



1. The reopening of St Bartholomew’s Cathedral with a new exposition

Without a doubt, St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral, along with its tallest church tower in the Czech Republic, is the dominant feature of Pilsen’s historical city centre. In June of this year, this Gothic gem will once again open its doors to the public, now that its renovations are complete. This will include a new exposition in the loft of the cathedral, which is part of the tower entrance.

2. New microbrewery Proud

On the grounds of the Pilsner Urquell Brewery, the new experimental brewery Proud was built, and great beer of various styles is now made here. In summer, you can plan a trip here not only to relax with a beer but also to embark on the commentated tours. For now, you can order the beer and enjoy it at home by visiting their e-shop online.

3. Opening a new information centre at the Pilsen Main Railway Station

The journey from Prague to Pilsen by train takes slightly less than 1 hour. Starting in June, visitors and tourists that arrive at the Pilsen Main Railway Station can stop by the new, modern information centre with an observation tower. You can swing by here right after you get to the station, grab a map for free, and ask any questions you might have. Before leaving, of course, you can also pick up a few souvenirs.

4. New businesses

The locally-loved Kafe Smetanka has moved to the city park Homolka, which you can visit by taking the 1 tram – Slovany all the way to its final stop. Right in the city centre, the beer-bistro Bandaska newly opened its doors.Apart from the great food, here you’ll find draft beer options, including lagers from the regional microbrewery Zlatá kráva (The Golden Cow). And last but not least, the new restaurant La Chica, where Mexican specialties are served, opened up shop in the historical former malthouse. 5. Interactive exposition The Mysterious Forest

DEPO2015 has held its popular festival BLIK BLIK since 2015. This year, instead of the classic festival, an interactive light exposition, The Mysterious Forest, will be held, which will guide guests through a fairyland forest, full of secrets, magic, imagination, light games, and special effects. No need to worry about any language barriers here, the exposition is even suitable for non-Czech speakers.

6. New expositions at the Pilsen ZOO

At the Pilsen ZOO, one of the most beautiful zoos and botanical gardens in the Czech Republic, something is always in the works. This year, the Zoo is celebrating its 95th anniversary, and now, after waiting for many months, it can open its doors once again to visitors. During the winter, the new pavilion Golden Fish (Zlaté rybky) was built and a number of baby animals were born.

7. New exposition at the Techmania Science Center

The Pilsen Techmania Science Center is an experimental station for curious explorers. This year, a new exposition has been introduced in the 3D Planetarium, called the Colonization of Mars. Here, visitors can simulate life in an underground station on Mars.
