Pilsen’s Celebration of the Foundation of the Czech Republic
Every year in Pilsen, celebrations are held on the anniversary of the foundation of the Czech Republic, where the doors to interesting places and tourist attractions are opened to the locals and tourists alike, either completely for free or for a symbolic price of only 28 Czech Crowns. This all-day programme offers commentated tours, excursions, garden visits, sightseeing tours on historic vehicles from the city public transport and sporting activities. Traditionally, the event culminates in the evening with a celebratory fireworks show on Republic Square.
What will the celebrations be like in 2023?
As with every year, you’ll be able to visit dozens of places in Pilsen either for free or for the symbolic price of 28 CZK. The doors will be traditionally opened to you at the Loos Interiors, the J.K. Tyl Theatre, St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral, as well as museums, galleries, gardens, and many other locations not only in Pilsen.
For the first time this year, tours of the technological park TechTower will be held as well as tours of the showrooms at the Pilsner Urquell Brewery. And on Oct. 28, you can take an exclusive look into the reactor hall of the Škoda J.S. company, where large pieces are made for nuclear power plants.
What else can you expect?
The entire city will be participating in the celebrations. You will find the Gastrozone on Republic Square and DEPO2015, where the popular Depo Street Food Market will be held. At 13h, Spiritual Kvartet will play alongside the cathedral on the main square, before Pilsen Voice takes the stage at 15h.
Also, the beloved lantern parade will set off from T.G. Masaryk Square heading for Republic Square, accompanied by majorettes, a band, and representatives of the Pilsen Sports Hall as well as legionnaires, who will embark at 18h. The parade will conclude with a giant, celebratory firework show on Republic Square at 18:30h
