Night of Opera – Libuše
Once again this year, Pilsen’s amphitheatre will fill with lovers of the opera and extraordinary experiences. The Night of Opera is a unique operatic event presented by Pilsen’s J. K. Tyl Theatre, performed under the open sky, and acting as the conclusion to the theatre season, offering both a first-rate singing cast and a grandiose scenic show. This year, a magnificent stage performance is in the works of the famous opera by Bedřich Smetana, originally written for the grand opening of the National Theatre. Bedřich Smetana attended grammar school in Pilsen, and it was during his time here that he decided to pursue a career in music, even writing in Pilsen several of his first minor piano pieces. 2024 will mark 200 years since his birth, meaning it comes as no surprise that the Night of Opera will perform one of his works.
A one-of-a-kind show
The JKT Theatre opera company is one of the best in the country. Alongside its multifaceted repertoire, the company also puts on the spectacular Night of Opera every year. The stage of the Lochotín Amphitheatre comes to life with hundreds of performers, and the unique costume design always promises a sight to be seen.
Monumental scenography is created for the performance, which is supplemented by a projection onto five large screens. Then, the production’s visuals are further highlighted by the light and laser effects. All of this comes together to guarantee a truly unique visual experience, full of wonderful music.
